Our policies are designed to be fair to everyone and to get as many sits as possible for you to choose from. When doing your House Sitting research we suggest you keep these points in mind to help you compare.

1.  The most important question you have to ask yourself is 'which site gets the most house sits for me to choose from? This is the site that is most likely to have, or to get (if they don't currently have)  a sit closest to what you want. Even if your perfect sit isn't available now it makes sense that the site with the most sits is most likely to get it.

Happy House Sitters gets more house sits than ANY Australian house & pet sitting site.  Don't believe us? Check us out and compare with other sites. If you find a site with more sits, we suggest you join up. If a site doesn't  get lots of sits for you to choose from you are wasting your money. 2. We don't charge the Home Owners to advertise on Happy House Sitters, and we advertise widely spending
70-75% of our advertising budget targeting and driving house and pet owners to this site.  This gives you a lot more house sitting opportunities! Any site that charges Home Owners to use their service will naturally get less sits for you to choose from. 3. We publish ALL advertised sits on this web site so you can email the home owners DIRECTLY and organise a house sit from here. This means you don't have to wait around for Home Owners to call you!

4. We will send you an email every time a new sit is available in your area so you can go directly to the members page and email the home owner.

5 We only charge sitters a one off registration fee (see price list below). We will NEVER ask for a daily or weekly fee when you get a house sit. There is no reason why you should have to pay a daily or weekly fee.

6. We do NOT use a directory. These are usually out of date and do not give you, the sitter a chance to contact Home Owners, leaving you waiting by the phone for someone to call.

7. Members can view photos of the houses & pets that need sitters.

8. Happy House Sitters offers the easiest and most cost effective way of finding a house to sit.
 
9. We keep introducing you to home owners for one year, no matter how many sits you have had.

What is the cost of this service and how long is my listing valid ?
Registration  is for 12 or 24 months, unlimited sits.

Your listing is 'Live' for 12 or 24 months. It may be 'frozen' or 'reactivated' if you can't use it for a period of time . It may be transferred to another zone of the same colour once free of charge & can be updated at any time.

Who is a house sitter?

People house sit for many reasons. They maybe saving for their own home, having their house renovated, being transferred interstate, not want to be tied to a lease, or they may like to live in many different locations. However, most of our sitters tend to be professional people saving for their first home.

Am I guaranteed a house sit?

No house sitting agency can give a 100% guarantee who will get which house sit, because ultimately it's the home owners that choose the sitters and not the agency.

However, being Australia's largest house sitting agency we have so many house sits to choose from, and are so confident  you will get one, that if in the unlikely event that after 12 months you don't get one, we will send you a petrol voucher or a MYER/ Grace Bros voucher to the value of $50.00 courtesy of Happy House Sitters. PLUS we will also give you an extra 3 months registration FREE. We are that confident you will get a house sit!

How does Happy House Sitters work?

The house sitter sends Happy House Sitters their completed application form and their details are added to our list. Your details are obtained by the Home Owner in one (or a combination) of two ways.

The House Sitter searches for a house to sit.

On the front page of this web site are  'House Sitters Wanted' ads placed by Home Owners. Registered house sitters can email the home owner directly and sell yourself as a sitter. When the home owner replies to your email you can arrange a time to get together and discuss the terms of the sit. This method combined with the method outlined below will double your chances of getting a sit when and where you want it.

The Home & Pet Owner  searches for you.

Your application is matched with home owners looking for sitters in the same area you told us you wish to live. When a match is found the your details are sent to the home owner via email.
We do not use a printed directory, they go out of date too quickly. Then the home owner contacts you to arrange a time to meet to discuss the sit. Together you negotiate the terms of the sit. It is very important that you are easy to reach, as many home owners will just ring the next person on the list if they can not contact you.

What's in it for me?

You get to live RENT FREE! If you are currently paying $200 pw in rent, that's a saving of $10,400.00 pa! In return for living rent free you agree to keep the property secure, clean and tidy, take care of any maintenance i.e. gardens, lawns and any 'home handy work' that may be required as well as care for any pets as if they were your own loved ones. In most cases the sitter agrees to pay for any utilities used. However, this should only be used a guideline and the actual terms must be negotiated between the sitter and the homeowner.

You will be emailed a password to access our 'House & Pet Sitter Wanted' ads as soon as you register. You can edit your listing at any time  free of charge. It costs about the same as one week's rent to register to house sit and live rent free for one year!
